Our goal is to develop middle-grade mathematics materials that teach
cryptography, the science of sending secret messages. Since kids enjoy
sending and breaking secret messages, cryptography provides a very
motivating setting for applying mathematics.

Our materials can be used in the classroom, or in informal settings such as
museums and after-school programs.

We are writing a book and developing this website to make the topics in the
book even more fun. We hope students will use our site both in and outside
school --- they do not need to use the book to enjoy the site.

This is the second year of our 3-year project, which is supported by a
grant from the National Science Foundation.
